How to clean a duvet: Torres Novas' tips
Like all Torres Novas products, our duvets are made to last a lifetime. But washing them can be a challenge. That's why we're sharing all our tips for making sure your duvets stay soft, comfortable and last a lifetime.

Always check the labels on your duvet
To make your life easier, we'll tell you what you'll find in the washing instructions for your Torres Novas duvets:
- Wash your duvet before using it for the first time
- Recommended washing up to 40ºC
- Dry the duvet in the shade or in the tumble dryer at minimum temperature, never in direct sunlight
- Do not iron
- Do not dry clean
- Store your duvet in a cool, dry place

Use a large washing machine and add dryer balls
Make sure you use a washing machine large enough to accommodate the duvet without wrinkling it too much. A machine with extra capacity is ideal to ensure that the duvet has room to move and is cleaned effectively. During the wash cycle, add a few dryer balls - this will help keep the duvet filling evenly distributed during the wash.

Choose the right wash cycle
Use a wash cycle for soft or delicate linen and don't go over 40ºC - water that is too hot can damage the materials and shrink the fabric. Also make sure to pick a mild detergent and never use fabric softeners, as they can leave residues on the fabric that affect the softness and the duvet's ability to regulate heat absorption.

Careful drying
Drying your duvet the right way is just as important as washing it, so we suggest drying your duvet in a large tumble dryer, using a low temperature setting to avoid damaging it. You can also add dryer balls at this point, to help keep the filling even. If you prefer not to use a dryer, you can dry your duvet outdoors in a well-ventilated place, avoiding direct sun exposure, to avoid fading the colours or sun-burning the fabric.

Air and shake the duvet frequently
After washing and drying, it is important to air and shake the duvet so that the filling is evenly distributed and the duvet regains its shape and softness. You can also distribute the filling evenly with your hands, as one sometimes does with cushions. To keep the duvet fresh and clean between washes, air it regularly, avoiding direct sunlight, which also helps eliminate odours and dust mites.

Extra tips
Washing frequency: Duvets don't need to be washed as often as sheets and pillowcases. Washing duvets two to three times a year is enough, as long as you use a duvet cover, which should be washed more often.

Storage: When not in use, store duvets in a breathable fabric bag to prevent dust from accumulating and to promote air circulation.

By following these steps and tips, you'll ensure that your duvet stays clean, soft and comfortable, while contributing to its durability, providing you with nights of sleep in the clouds for a long time to come.
